Compassion, comfort, and support for anyone grieving the death of a loved one
Weekly GriefShare Group Sessions
The Grief Ministry meets weekly and uses GriefShare™, a recovery seminar and support group designed to help you rebuild your life after losing a loved one.
Each weekly GriefShare™ session is a video seminar featuring some of the nation’s foremost experts on grief recovery topics. Each seminar is combined with a small group discussion time to allow group participants to talk about the content of the seminar and about how they are dealing with the death of their loved one.
The GriefShare™ group sessions held at St. Vincent Ferrer are facilitated by caring parishioners from our Grief Ministry team who have experienced grief and want to help you through the difficult days ahead. Since 2014, this ministry has walked the GriefShare™ journey “From Mourning to Joy” with over 90 participants.
Although the program does follow a topic sequence, you are welcome to begin attending sessions at any point – you do not have to wait until the next scheduled series begins. We encourage new participants to either call ahead or arrive 15 minutes early to their first session.
Special Event: “A Night of Fellowship” Potluck
Join us for a casual, simple evening of food and fellowship and, if you’d like, conversation. Anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one is welcome; you do not have to be a participant of our weekly GriefShare sessions to attend.
Attendees are welcome, but not required, to bring a food item to share.
Please RSVP if possible so we can plan accordingly.

Special Event: GriefShare “Loss of a Spouse”
Loss of a Spouse is a 2-hour seminar for people grieving a spouse’s death. This is a brand new program we are looking forward to bringing to the widows and widowers of St. Vincent Ferrer.
The seminar features video interviews with counselors, grief experts, and widowed men and women. They offer helpful insights on:
- What to expect in the days to come
- How to deal with the loneliness
- What to do with your spouse’s belongings
- Why it won’t always hurt this much
- And other practical help for dealing with the challenges of widowhood
Everyone who attends will receive a booklet with over 30 short readings on how to live with grief and eventually rebuild your life.
Special Event: GriefShare “Surviving the Holidays”
This two-hour stand-alone seminar is a once-a-year program specially designed for people who have lost a loved one and are facing the upcoming holiday season.
In the seminar, you’ll learn:
- How to deal with the many emotions you’ll face during the holidays
- What to do about traditions and other coming changes
- Helpful tips for surviving social events
- How to discover hope for your future
This is a free event and all attendees receive a Holiday Survival Guide to keep.
All are welcome – you do not have to be currently participating in our weekly GriefShare sessions to attend the Surviving the Holidays event. But please pre-register, if you can, so we can be sure to have enough seats and books for everyone.
Grief Ministry Lending Library
We have a collection of books that can be of great comfort during times of grief, and you are welcome to borrow one whenever you’d like.
Please visit the front desk in the church office during their regular business hours to be directed to our lending library, where you can check out and return books, or donate books to our ministry
